Rhinoplasty
By Jayna Davis on July 15, 2009
If you want to get a new look, why not try getting a nose job? Whether the reason why youre going for a rhinoplasty is because youve gotten a bad hand in the genetic game of chance that dictates how your nose looks like, or because you got half your face eaten by a shark, dont worry. This particular cosmetic surgery procedure has been around for thousands of years. Literally!
Rhinoplasty was one of the first plastic surgery procedures ever performed. Heck, it’s been around since 500 BC in ancient India, where nose amputations were a pretty common form of punishment for crimes. Of course, if you get your nose cut off, you’d probably want it back at some point, and that’s probably how rhinoplasty started.
Rhinoplasty was born because ex-cons wanted their noses back. Even though getting your schnoz chopped off isnt a big thing in most of todays correctional facilities or criminal justice systems, rhinoplastys still a pretty big thing in general.
Because this kind of procedure is also often used to correct breathing difficulties and other similar problems, other kinds of surgeons perform rhinoplasty too; like maxillofacial surgeons and otolaryngologists (these are surgeons who concentrate mostly on the head and neck).
A lot of celebrities have undergone nose jobs. Of course, it can occasionally be a bit of a bother to try and get celebrities to talk about their plastic surgery and plastic surgery trauma. If you want solid, honest facts though, try checking out photos of certain stars today (I cant really name them, of course; I might end up getting sued or something similarly unpleasant), and comparing those photos with ones that had been taken a few years ago. If youll notice, some of them have cuter noses now, and by extension, faces that can be said to have better flow.
The good thing about it is that its about as non-invasive as a Botox injection. Like a Botox injection though, this kind of nose job usually isnt permanent. There are certain types of filler that are, but for the most part, the filler usually fades away in a few months to a year.
The kind of rhinoplasty that involves slicing into the skin is definitely a lot more permanent than the injected type. And compared to some other kinds of cosmetic or reconstructive surgery procedures, its usually a lot safer and simpler. For one thing, the risk of post-operative bleeding and infection are actually pretty small.
Happily, whether youre getting a nose job for practical purposes or for the sake of aesthetics, know that you wont be alone. Lots of people all over the world enjoy the benefits that a good nose job can offer.
