Acne
By Jessica Matias on July 4, 2009
If you’ve got acne, you’re not alone. Almost everyone suffers through it, especially during the teen years. All of the hormones that a developing body produces are usually the biggest causes of acne for most adolescents.
Those hormones often make the skin produce a bit too much oil, which can clog up pores and make bacteria breed, which can cause all those nasty acne symptoms, like pimples, papules, nodules, and blackheads and whiteheads.
Another one of the causes of acne is genetics. Some people will have the great luck of inheriting really good skin that’s almost completely resistant to blemishes. These lucky ones won’t have to suffer through acne at all; not even during puberty. On the other hand, there will be those who will unfortunately have to battle with severe acne throughout their lives. Most of us will fall somewhere in between.
Luckily, treating acne can be pretty easy. Sometimes, all it takes is some good hygiene. Not touching your face so that the dirt on your hands doesn’t get transferred to the skin of your face is one good suggestion. Another suggestion is to wash your face regularly.
You’ll have to buy a particular kind of cleanser if you have really oily skin, for example. You’ll probably have probably be a lot more susceptible to acne, since excess skin oil is one of the causes of acne.
Hormone treatments, for example, can be an effective treatment for really severe acne. For most people though, a good acne cream is often enough. Applying it regularly or as directed by your doctor can really show results, especially if coupled with a good skin care regimen.
If you have really severe acne, you might need more drastic treatments, like cortisone injections or even surgery. Some of the methods for treating acne, for example, will deal with the causes of acne, rather than just the effects of it. Check with your dermatologist, though.
So, whether your acne manifests as nothing more than a few non-inflammatory whiteheads and blackheads, or your face, neck and back are covered in pustules and nodules the size of dung beetles, don’t worry! There are bound to be products that will not only treat the effects of acne, but the causes of acne as well.
